Where is your favourite kid friendly restaurant, cafe or Bistro

After being away from my family for 3 nights due to the Success Summit we decided to celebrate my home coming in Balmain for breakfast.  We stumbled upon Cafe Berlin, it was a lovely cafe that had great service and was very child friendly – Finally!

In one corner was a little play area for the kids filled with costumes, drawing table and a variety of toys and gadgets to keep the little ones busy.

The food was reasonably priced at $15 each and pretty yummy.  We had ordered the breakfast menu and ofcourse I had my regular eggs benedicts -I am on a mission to find the best one in Sydney – so if you know of a great one please let me know.

They brought out scrambled eggs for Christian with toast cut into little triangles.  I was pretty impressed with Christian because it was the first time he assertively put his hand up and asked for a “Big spoon” from the waitress.

You can tell the owners really thought about catering for families because they had the colourful Ikea plastic cups for the kids.  It’s amazing how a little thing like that can make a child feel comfortable and at home.  Christian was so excited to eat there because of that.

After breakfast we headed to Kidstuff -convinently located next door.  I was so excited to find Counters. They are little transport or animal shaped rubber  toys designed to develop  counting and  sorting skills.

Counters-Developing counting, sorting and fine-motor skills

These are just some of the ways we played with them.

Making patterns and finding patterns

Sorting them into colours, shapes and making patterns.  Making and finding patterns are important for finding patterns in music notation.

Developing fine-motor skills

Developing fine-motor skills for writing with a pencil and instrument play such as the piano or guitar.

Sorting colour

I found paper that matched the colours of the counter shapes and I let him watch me write the colours  on the paper.  This helps  develop his awareness of print.

Sorting-which belongs in the air and which belong on the ground

We also took it a little further and drew clouds for the plane and helicopter, water for the ship, road and stops signs for the bus and car and railway tracks for the train. He then placed the appropriate counter on the appropriate picture – he did decide that one of the cars was a flying car!

Hope this gives you more ideas for our Kindermusik topics-Away we go and Toys I make, Trips I take.
